Cervical Smear Testing
We offer cervical smear testing with an experienced GP, either as a stand-alone appointment or as part of one of our gynaecology packages. Every test is carried out with care, discretion, and respect for your comfort throughout.
Why Choose Wimbledon Medical Service?
Our GPs have extensive experience in women's health and cervical screening, so you can feel confident you're in safe, capable hands. We understand that this isn't always the easiest appointment to book, which is why we focus on creating a calm, private, and unhurried environment from the moment you arrive.
Our appointments are never rushed. You'll have dedicated time with your doctor to ask questions, raise any concerns, and fully understand each step of the process — before, during, and after your test.
ABOUT OUR PRIVATE CERVICAL SCREENING SERVICE
What to Expect at Your Appointment
Your appointment begins with a conversation. Before any examination takes place, your GP will talk you through the procedure, answer any questions you may have, and check whether you have any symptoms or concerns worth discussing. If it's your first smear test, or if you've had a difficult experience in the past, please do let your doctor know — we're happy to take things at your pace.
The test itself is quick, typically taking only a few minutes. A small sample is gently taken from the cervix using a soft brush, which is then sent to the laboratory for analysis. Most people find the procedure to be no more than mildly uncomfortable, and our GPs will always explain what they're doing as they go.What is in a referral letter?
Understanding Your Results
The sample will be tested for HPV, and the cervical cells will also be examined for any abnormal changes (cytology). Results are usually available within one week and will be communicated directly to you, together with a clear explanation of what they mean and any recommended follow-up. We know that waiting for results can be an anxious time, so we aim to get in touch as promptly as possible once your report is back from the laboratory.
If any further assessment or treatment is needed, we'll talk you through the next steps in plain, straightforward terms and help arrange appropriate follow-up or referral — whether that's a repeat test, further investigation, or a referral to a specialist. You'll never be left to interpret a result on your own.
